The Andrew James Cherpak III
Law School Memorial Scholarship
The Andrew James Cherpak III Law School Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Stony Brook University college senior who has demonstrated exceptional scholastic achievement and has overcome significant adversity in his/her life. An awardee's strong academic, community service and employment records indicate promise for succeeding in law school and fulfilling Andrew's dream of becoming an attorney. We select recipients who exhibit the will to continue where Andrew left off and, thereby, contribute to his precious legacy.
Eligibility
College seniors accepted into an accredited law school are eligible to apply. Scholarships will be awarded to applicants graduating from Stony Brook University. We have chosen this school for multiple reasons, most notably because:
Andrew was committed to becoming a lawyer and continued attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice to pursue his studies for as long as his illness would allow. And even when this was no longer possible, Andrew persevered by studying his law books on his own.
Andrew was incredibly proud of his sister who graduated from Stony Book University and is now fulfilling her dreams with her graduate studies. Despite her being younger and graduating with a college degree, Andrew glowed from cheek-to-cheek for his sister and proudly contributed to Stony Brook University pride. Although Andrew was too ill to physically attend his sister's graduation, he listened to the entire ceremony via cellular phone. As Andrew's illness took over more and more of his capabilities, he made his sister promise that she would continue her studies.
